ITER-GA

In Facilities for the Future of Science, published November 2003, the Office of Science identified 28 high priority facilities in a twenty-year outlook. The ITER facility was the top priority facility in this list.

The DIII-D Program is undertaking the resolution of key enabling issues for ITER and for advancing various magnetic fusion concepts. The DIII-D National Fusion Program will continue to play a key role in the U.S. scientific contribution to ITER and in enabling the U.S. to benefit from its participation in ITER.

  • DIII-D is developing the physics basis for key ITER issues and advanced ITER operation.
  • Continued research on DIII-D until ITER operates will significantly advance the research program on ITER.
  • DIII-D will be a principal training ground for the U.S. research team for ITER.
